A multifaceted artist with over three decades of experience, Martin’s journey embodies a unique approach to time, space, and sound, integrating hands, feet, breath, and voice into a harmonious exploration of music. As a musician, songwriter, producer, and teacher, his artistry spans drums, percussion, flute, vocals, and arrangements, with an ever-evolving style inspired by the rich cultural tapestry of his global encounters.
Musical Training and Evolution
Martin began drumming at the age of 9, studying at the conservatories of Tours, Compiègne, and St. Germain-en-Laye before pursuing advanced training at the CIM Jazz School in Paris. Over four years, he mastered drums, percussion, harmony, singing, piano, and arrangements, earning the prestigious DESMM (Graduate Diploma in Modern Music) in 1990. His early years were enriched through masterclasses and jam sessions with luminaries like Paco Sery, Angelique Kidjo, Tito Puentes, and more.
Since 1992, he has been based in Touraine, France, collaborating with various fusion bands such as Wa, Mbata Kongo, and Namastéj, blending Afro-reggae, rap, and Indian influences. His work includes producing CDs, performing concerts, and appearing at major festivals across France.
Instruments and Humanitarian Contributions
His musical repertoire includes the Kora (African harp), Handpan, Indian Bansuri flute, Andean Kena flute, and diphonic singing (learned under Mongolian master Tserendavaa). He has also studied Indian tablas with Amrat Hussain and Ustad Rafeek Mohamad in Jaipur, further deepening his connection to Indian music.
Humanitarian contributions have been central to his career, including:
- “Green Bodhgaya” Project (2010): Co-creating an album and show supporting reforestation in Bodh Gaya, India.
- “M’Dub & Friends” (2014): Producing an album to support a shelter for children in Pokhara, Nepal.
- “Elements of Existence” (2017): A collaborative album with virtuoso singer Tritha Sinha for educating underprivileged children in Bodh Gaya
