A celebrated Japanese musician and founder of the Matsumoto Zoku Band, Reo Matsumoto blends handpan melodies with beatboxing rhythms to create an unparalleled musical experience. His journey began at 16 with beatboxing, a passion that led him to become the Japan Beatbox Team Champion in 2011 and represent Japan at the World Beatbox Championship in Berlin twice (2009 and 2012).
Reo is the Representative Director of Tokyo HandPan Lab., where he has hosted the Tokyo HandPan Festival three times, nurturing a vibrant handpan culture in Japan. As a sponsored player for Yishama, the world’s first Asian handpan maker, he is a prominent figure in the European handpan scene.
With the Matsumoto Zoku Band, Reo has toured the world five times, performing at major festivals such as the Ozora Festival (seven appearances), Fusion Festival, and the Solar Eclipse Festival. In 2020, he released the world’s first Handpan Lo-fi HipHop album, earning praise from Utamaru (RHYMSTER) and Micro (Def Tech).
